Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of failing to uphold the principle of “One Man, One Vote,” which he called the bedrock of the Constitution.

Addressing media outside Parliament, Gandhi said, “It is the duty of the Election Commission to enforce One Man, One Vote, but they have not done their duty. We are protecting the Constitution, and we will keep doing it.” He reiterated that the Opposition’s fight was not political but aimed at safeguarding democracy and ensuring a clean voters list.

Earlier in the day, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, and other INDIA bloc leaders staged a protest inside Parliament over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue. Opposition MPs, wearing white T-shirts with the slogan ‘124 Not Out,’ joined the demonstration, with several leaders including Supriya Sule, Kanimozhi, and others holding onions as a symbolic gesture.

CPI(M) MP P Sandosh Kumar said the coalition would intensify its campaign against SIR, calling it a “huge fight to save democracy” and highlighting growing unity within the alliance.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and several INDIA bloc MPs were detained by Delhi Police during a march from Parliament to the ECI headquarters over alleged electoral irregularities in Bihar. They were taken to Parliament Street police station in buses, along with leaders such as Sanjay Raut and Sagarika Ghose.

Gandhi maintained, “The truth is in front of the country. This fight is to save the Constitution and ensure One Man, One Vote.”
